Attention visual arts lovers! We've updated our New Acquisition Digital Gallery (http://affta.ab.ca/Art-Collection/New-Acquisitions) with the AFA's newest acquisitions from 2012 featuring over 60 pieces of acquired art work from nearly 40 artists!

Artworks are added to the collection through an annual juried Art Acquisition by Application program, the Art Collection Committee purchase program, and a donation program to support steady and diverse collection growth. Collected works are maintained to professional museum standards, and held in trust by the AFA for the people of Alberta. For more information on art acquisitions go to our Art Collection Programming section (http://affta.ab.ca/Art-Collection/Art-Collection-Programming)

Alberta  Culture Days Funding Now Available - May 3, 2013 Application Deadline

From pottery-making in Camrose, to behind-the-scene tours in Calgary and Edmonton, to the historic regions of Drumheller, Alberta’s culture is rich with stories. With hundreds of local events and activities across the province, Alberta Culture Days is our largest celebration of our heritage, arts, community spirit and cultural diversity.

To help increase participation and Albertans’ access to culture, the Government of Alberta is providing funding to organizations to put on events for Alberta Culture Days 2013, occurring September 27–29. The application period runs March 11 to May 3, 2013.

Up to five applicants will be selected to be Feature Celebration Sites and will be eligible to receive a maximum of $20,000 for three days of programming. Additional applications will be selected to be Host Celebration Sites and are eligible to receive up to $5,000 for two days of programming. In 2012, 64 groups across the province seized this opportunity.

Becoming an official celebration site is a wonderful opportunity to build partnerships, strengthen community spirit and showcase local talent, but it’s also an opportunity to boost the impact and reach of your existing cultural programming. Visit the ‘Get Involved’ section at  www.AlbertaCultureDays.ca  for full details. Culture connects our people, our communities and our province. Join the celebration today!
