This year marks the 117th Annual Edmonton Music & Speech Arts Festival (formerly known as the Edmonton Kiwanis Music Festival) – North America’s first and longest-running festival of its kind. Nearly 1,400 single and group entrants (aged 4 to over 80), taught by 190 teachers, and entered in over 690 classes will perform and compete from April 22 to May 4, 2025, at the EPSB Centre High Campus (10050 MacDonald Drive – formerly known as Alberta College), McDougall United Church (10025 101 Street), the Old Strathcona Performing Arts Centre (8426 Gateway Boulevard), and Archbishop MacDonald Catholic High School (14219 109 Avenue).

Still Move: Studio Arts 2025 BFA Grad Show

Event Date and Time: Thursday, April 10, 2025, 7-9 pm

Event Description: Still Move: Studio Arts 2025 BFA Grad Show at MacEwan University features the work of artists Keni Ayuno, Lydia Buhay, Isabella Camerino, Michelle Goulet, Kathleen MacKay, Maya Pereira, Sutharot Plia, Lindsey Powlik and Alethea Recla. In a wide range of creative practices, the artworks in this exhibition offer nine different meditations on the idea that stillness and movement are not exclusive of one another.

Co-existing at the Mitchell Art Gallery located in Treaty 6 Territory, the artworks span multiple media and methods in an expressive and eclectic manner. The exhibition includes video, animation, sound, painting, sculpture, textiles, drawing, book arts, print and photo processes, and installation.

Amidst the fast-paced world of the 21st century, we take this opportunity to pause. Still Move suggests that the idea of growing and moving forward is only possible if we embrace rest and reflection. In a rebellious fashion and through a feminist lens, this exhibition dismisses the capitalist values of productivity and consumption. Instead, Still Move advocates for the acts of pausing, observing, questioning and sharing, and in doing so, embracing hope and care for ourselves and others.

Accessibility information: The Mitchell Art Gallery (MAG) is located on the main floor of MacEwan University's Allard Hall. There is paid parking underground with elevator access and a gravel lot behind Allard Hall with ramped sidewalks. There are no stairs to enter into Allard Hall from ground level. The MAG has a wide, open doorway and seating available for those who might need a rest. An ASL interpreter will be present during the speaking portion of the evening's programming.
