Indigenous Films Call for Submissions

The Edmonton Short Film Festival is currently seeking submissions for a special film screening and author Truth & Reconciliation event on Tuesday, September 30 from 4:00pm-6:00pm at Audreys Books!

There is a one time submission fee of $10 and we will consider your film for community screenings for the next 5 years from your submission date. We will also pay you a screening fee every time we choose to show your film!

Studio Faculty, Fibre Arts

The Role 

Our artists live with disabilities of varying forms but come to the studio because they want to be artists. To help our artists meet this goal, our Studio Faculty will lead their media-specific departments while making extra efforts to encourage, inspire, and motivate them to conceptualize new ideas, create with new mediums, develop and deliver specialized training programs, and exhibit their works when opportunities arise.

Write On! The Songwriting Experience is an 8-month mentorship program based in Calgary, Alberta, designed to support and develop emerging songwriters. Launching its fifth season in September 2025, the program offers a comprehensive journey from songwriting to music release. Applications for the 2025–2026 season are now open, with a deadline of July 31, 2025. The program is open to songwriters of all levels and genres with a passion for community and collaboration. In this lecture-based course, participants will learn the fundamentals of grant writing specifically for independent filmmakers and media artists in Canada, and write a proposal in real-time during class. Participants will have the opportunity to workshop answers, timelines, and ideas with peers.

Led by Monica Gate, attendees will explore how to properly research and prepare for grants, write strong and compelling project proposals, create a clear and accurate budget, as well as appropriate supporting material.

Over the four weeks, we will learn how to write a Stream 1, 2, and 3 Individuals and Collective grant with for the Edmonton Arts Council. AFA and CCA grants will also be discussed, providing participants with experienced perspectives and advice. By the end of this course, participants will have a first draft of their grant proposal.

Participants are encouraged to have a grant-ready project upon entry to this course.

The Gallery Shop retail spaces in both Edmonton and Calgary generate sales for artists, provide valuable career mentorship, product feedback, learning opportunities for the public, and revenue for the Alberta Craft Council to deliver additional programming.  

Who is this call for? We encourage all levels from emerging to established artists working in craft specific media to apply if they are looking for a retail venue to develop their career. Applicants must be Alberta-based artists.
