Step into the limelight in this playful and supportive class! Whether your child is the larger-than-life performer or the quiet and curious creator, they will love this class. Students will explore performance and character through physical and vocal exercises which will lead them into creation!

No experience necessary! This course is designed to be repeated as the material changes each term.

The Pumphouse Theatre Drama Day Camps are a great introduction to world of drama. Participants learn through dramatic arts to gain confidence, make friends and have fun! This drama camp offers a wide range of activities and drama games, taught by a team of fun and engaging instructors. Spend the day learning a variety of new drama lessons and skills, and throughout the week students work to develop a performance that will be performed on the final day of camp and then shared with family and friends, allowing students to put their new skills to practical use.

We are unfortunately unable to accommodate registrations of participants who are under the age of 7 years old. The only exception to this age restriction is if the participant has a birthday just prior or during the session they have registered for.

Each day of camp is divided into classes, covering a variety of acting techniques, speech, physical theatre play creation, and much more! Emphasis is placed on group-work that helps to develop social and life skills. Under the guidance of our professional instructors, participants will work together within their age group to create a play. At the end of each session, participants will showcase their new talents to family and friends by performing this brand-new creation.

A $50 Discount applies to multiple registrations per family, or to early bird registrations received before February 28th.

Cost
5 Day session: $350 regular ($300 discounted)

Times
Monday to Friday: 9:00 am – 4:30 pm
Pre-Care: 8:00 am – 9:00 am
Post-Care: 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm
Pre & Post Care are included in the cost of registration.

The Pumphouse Theatre will be adhering to all up to date health and safety regulations in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cancellation is permitted (less a $25 administration fee) provided notice is given a minimum of 10 business days prior to the first day of camp. We do acknowledge the impact that COVID-19 has had on our community, so if a refund is needed that is of a direct result of COVID-19, please contact us directly. We do have a bursary option for those who need financial assistance. These bursaries are in limited supply and an application must be requested from the Programming Director.

Looking for a quick and  beautiful way to do relief printing? Using printing presses will give you the speed and flexibility to take your art to the next level. Compatible with Linocut printing, Polymer plates and Woodcuts, this class gives you the knowledge to lock these things up with lead type or on their own in their two user friendly presses!

No experience required.

About the instructor:

Michelle Wiebe is a Cochrane, Alberta-based artist focused primarily on painting, printmaking and letterpress. With a great fondness for all things print, you can find her fixing rusty presses or spending time printing at Alberta Printmakers. Michelle is a passionate instructor with a deep love for teaching, she makes it her goal that students leave her class with quality work and the confidence to continue building their new skills.

Workshop: Chine Collé Secrets

Instructor: Myken McDowell

Take your prints to the next level! This one-day chine-collé workshop would be ideal for those with some prior printmaking experience, who may have old etching plates they would like to revisit, old proofs printed on washi paper, monotypes, or drawings rendered in oil-based inks. In this workshop, students will learn how to chine-collé, a process of printing on Japanese rice paper and bonding to a heavier substrate, both with and without a press. Over the course of a single class, Participants will extend their print knowledge as students will walk through the chine- collé process step-by-step to make unique works of art.

About the instructor:

Myken McDowell is an Edmonton-based visual artist and educator. Rooted in printmaking and full of questions about memory, place, and their influence on one another, her interdisciplinary artwork has been exhibited nationally and internationally and has earned numerous scholarships and awards. She also works as the Printshop and Programs Coordinator at the Society of Northern Alberta Printmakers, but when she’s not doing that, she likes to take pictures of empty spaces and collect other people’s love letters.

Workshop: Linocut Basics

Instructor: Jonathan Creese 
Dates: Tuesdays, February 18 and 25, 2025, 6-9pm 
Location: A/P Studio 
Cost: $145

In this course the basics of linocut printmaking will be taught with a focus on safe carving technique, good image design and the use of texture in the creation of compositions. Over the course of two evenings, participants will develop an image, carve it into a linoblock, and print a small edition of monochromatic prints. Participants should leave the workshop with a good foundation in the medium to allow them to continue with personal explorations.

This course is suitable for all levels with no prior experience needed.

What you’ll learn: ​​​​
  • What should be considered when designing an image for the relief printing process
  • How to transfer the image to the block
  • The basics of carving linoleum safely and efficiently
  • The techniques for dynamic mark making and texture in monochromatic linocut prints.
  • The inking and printing process
About the instructor:

Jonathan Creese is a Trinidadian artist, currently living, working, and studying in Calgary AB. Being introduced to art primarily from the realm of printmaking, his work uses the language and sensibilities of printmaking to highlight the realities of the cultural and socio political landscape of his homeland. As of November 26th 2024 he is interested in ways of representing quantitative data visually, particularly in relation to homicide statistics in Trinidad and Tobago.
