The Africa Centre is proud to announce that applications are now open for Cohort 8 of the Ujima Fellowship. As the largest Pan-African non-profit in Western Canada, we are dedicated to placing the next generation of Black and BIPOC leaders into the decision-making spaces where they belong.
Rooted in the Kwanzaa principle of Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility), this fellowship is a fully funded leadership journey valued at over $4,000, provided at no cost to participants. We bridge the gap between community passion and professional governance.
What You Gain:
- Accredited Training: 10 weeks of weekly NAIT Leadership classes (starting April 25).
- Professional Governance: Completion of the Alberta Board Member Essentials (ABME) training.
- Real-World Placement: A 6-month board placement with a community organization to gain active leadership experience.
- Certification & Stipend: Upon successful completion, fellows receive three professional certificates and a $200 stipend.
Who Can Apply:
- Youth aged 16–30.
- Identify as Black, African, Caribbean, or from a marginalized/Indigenous community.
- Reside in Edmonton or Calgary.
- Interested in professional development and community advocacy.
Success in Action: Our alumni are already making waves. One recent Edmonton fellow from Cohort 6 transitioned directly from their board placement into a full-time professional role with their host organization.
How to Apply: Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, but the window for Cohort 8 closes soon.
