Writing Amiskwaciwâskahikan (Edmonton) - 4-week writing course
DATE :
DEADLINE: April 12, 2026 - 5:00 pm
Place-Based Writing Course at the Indigenous Peoples Experience
Join Fort Edmonton Park and the City Arts Centre for a four-week writing course set within the Indigenous Peoples Experience.
This course invites you to explore what it means to write about the land we call home. Whether your connection to this place spans generations or you are newly arrived, everyone holds a unique relationship to this land and a story worth telling.
Each week, sessions will take place in different areas of the Indigenous Peoples Experience, reflecting seasonal perspectives and teachings. Weather permitting, portions of the class may also take place outdoors.
The course is guided by Edmonton’s former Poet Laureate, Mary Pinkoski, in partnership with an Indigenous Interpreter from Fort Edmonton Park. Together, they will lead participants through thoughtful prompts and discussions centered on connection to place, the interconnectedness of all living beings, and the spirit and intent of Treaty 6.
As we approach the 150th anniversary of the signing of Treaty 6 in August 2026, this course offers space to reflect, learn, and create. By the end of the program, participants will have developed a personal journal of place-based writing and a deeper understanding of what it means to live as a treaty person.
