We are excited to announce the 12FOOT12 Installation Challenge at the Kaleido Family Arts Festival 2024, and we invite you to apply and showcase your creativity in this unique opportunity!
12FOOT12 Installation Challenge
Deadline to Apply: July 31, 2024
We invite artists, designers, and creatives to design in all directions within a 12 x 12 x 12 foot space at the Kaleido Family Arts Festival site on Alberta Avenue (118 Ave) from September 13-15, 2024. Use this year's theme, "Hearts a Melting," as inspiration for your piece.
Challenge Details:
- Installation Start: Friday, September 13 at 7:00 PM
- Installation End: Saturday, September 14 at 7:00 PM
- Dismantling: Sunday, September 15 after the festival closure at 6:00 PM
Selected teams will receive a $300 artist fee and a $100 project credit with Edmonton ReUse Stores (link).
Rules and Guidelines:
- Building sites are on pavement, not enclosed, and not against any walls. The street will be closed to vehicle traffic.
- Artists must provide their own materials, tools, and labor, and are responsible for installation and dismantling.
- Installations must be weatherproof (wind and rain) and safe for public viewing. If tools or other dangerous elements are present during construction, someone must be present at all times to ensure public safety.
- Installations may include interactive or performance elements alongside a visual art/design component.
- Installations should not be prefabricated units simply attached together; we want festival-goers to see the hard work involved.
- Limited security will be provided, and exhibit attendant volunteers will be available during public hours. Artists are encouraged to volunteer as attendants.
- All artists/designers must enter into a contractual agreement with Arts on the Ave if selected.
- Promotional materials must include logo credit to Kaleido, and artists may bring their own signage.
To apply, please submit a simple, clear proposal and project description with rough sketches. Specify any concerns about barriers to construction and how you plan to use the $100 project credit.
