Pay range:
Instructors: $18.44 to $23.07 per hour
Leaders: $24.23 to $30.30 per hour
Hours: 35 to 40 hours per week
This posting is for four summer positions starting June 26, 2022 until August 28, 2022.
We are seeking one Instructor based out of Gallery@501, one Leader based out of Gallery@501, and two Leaders based out of Smeltzer House.
The Visual Arts Summer Camp Instructors and Leaders work within a team environment to develop and implement creative, age-appropriate programs for Strathcona County in the areas of pottery, art, crafts, and games.
These positions report to the Visual Arts Programmers at Smeltzer House Visual Arts Centre and Gallery@501.
Responsibilities
- Provide children and youth with an inclusive, positive, safe, and creative learning experience
- Provide safe supervision to participants engaged in visual art programs
- Plan, organize, schedule, and present art activities, games, outdoor play, and other activities
- Provide support to the operation of summer programs such as registration administration, daily attendance records, communication with parents, and accurate recording and monitoring of specific registrants’ information
- Daily set up and clean-up of activity site(s)
- Ensure health and safety regulations are followed
Instructors:
- Develop and deliver high-quality summer recreation programs
- Collaborate and positively interact within a team environment
- Provide leadership and mentorship to Leaders in Training summer participants
Leaders:
The Summer Camp Leaders will have additional responsibilities and will be selected from the group of successful applicants based on interest, experience, and the interview process.
- Overall leadership and responsibility of instructors, leaders in training, and participants within designated activities
- Main point of contact for the Visual Arts Programming team
- Organizing pick up/drop off, and completion of weekly paperwork (i.e. Waivers, Incident Forms, Leaders in Training Evaluation Forms, etc.)
- Lead role in creating and coordinating instructor ideas, as well as submitting program plans and parent letters
Skills and Abilities
- Positive, proven leadership and team-building skills
- Ability to maintain high standards of respect, safety, quality, and cooperation
- Time-management skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision
- Outstanding problem solving and communication skills
Qualifications
- Minimum Grade 10 completed and demonstrated experience working with children
- Enrolment in post-secondary education for fine arts, education, recreation, and/or other related degree is an asset
- Experience instructing programs in a group setting is highly desired
- Strathcona County’s Leaders in Training program is considered an asset
- Experience and passion in visual arts, fine crafts, and/or recreation would be an asset
Conditions of Employment
- Submission of Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
- Current First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification
- Ability to lift 20lbs. and supply totes as part of the job duties and stand for extended periods of time
