Artistic director and choreographer Wen Wei Wang dedicates his new work to his late mother, Ying Yun, who had a significant influence on him becoming an artist. Wang engages a group of exceptional dancers to interpret her story, whilst sharing their own intersectional experiences. The work features remixes of Bach compositions with an electroacoustic score.
Ying Yun is a meditative ode to women, brought to life by one of the best contemporary choreographers in the country. Wen Wei Wang’s works show a unique blend of contemporary dance and ballet. Springboard is honoured to be celebrating this exceptionally distinct creative voice.
“Strikingly visceral and hypnotic, Ying Yun has an appeal that goes beyond the fact that it is just beautiful to watch. It is that nothing is ever literal—memories, imagery, and movement meld into an abstract vision that exists in a place beyond words. And, fortunately for Wang, he has the talent on hand to take it there.” - Janet Smith
Ying Yun honours the power of women and a resolution to dig deep into personal history to find future forward performance.
