Event Description
Artist Natali Rodrigues will speak about both her art practice and her teaching practice. Although they share roots in exploration, playfulness, material understanding, and skill, the two paths lead to very different outcomes.
Her artistic work reaches toward the unknowable—those rare moments when you feel so deeply connected to the world that the boundary between yourself and everything else seems to dissolve. She asks: How can a feeling, or a truth, be expressed through glass and drawing?
About the Artist
Natali Rodrigues is an Associate Professor in the Glass Program at the Alberta University of the Arts in Canada. Her research investigates the experience of liminal space and transformative experience, which finds voice through two distinct making practises: drawing and glass. Her working methodology moves between a meditative making practise and one that is profoundly physical. Her practise is an attempt to create a system of cartography of liminal space, where what is marked is not in reference to the physical but rather the transformative.
