Secure the Bag 2026 – Applications Open

Secure the Bag 2026 is a BIPOC Foundation initiative providing $1,000 grants to eligible Black, Indigenous and People of Colour living in Southern Alberta.

The program is designed to reduce financial barriers and support individuals pursuing creative projects, education, entrepreneurship, community initiatives and Indigenous-led activities.

Available Funding Streams

Applicants may apply under one of the following five streams:

Artists: For visual artists, musicians, performers, writers, filmmakers, digital creators and other creative professionals developing their practice or producing new work.

Community: For community organizers, activists and leaders delivering grassroots, cultural or social-impact initiatives.

Students: For students pursuing secondary or post-secondary education, vocational training or professional development.

Entrepreneurs: For small-business owners, startup founders and aspiring entrepreneurs seeking to start or grow a business.

Indigenous: A dedicated stream supporting Indigenous artists, entrepreneurs, students, community leaders and other Indigenous applicants.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Identify as Black, Indigenous or a Person of Colour.
  • Live in Southern Alberta.
  • Apply under the funding stream that best matches their project, education, business or community goal.
  • Complete and submit the application online.

Grant Amount

Successful applicants may receive a grant of $1,000

Application Deadline

Applications are expected to close during the first week of October 2026.

Applicants are encouraged to apply early and not wait until the deadline.
