Write Over Here: Indigenous Futurism Residency 2027 (Banff Centre)

The program supports Indigenous screenwriters who want to advance their work and are exploring themes of futurism for film and television adaptations.
This residency balances self-directed writing in personal studios and scheduled workshops, discussions, and events. Participants will refine their screenwriting skills, collaborate with peers, and engage in culturally informed creative practices.
- Online preparatory week: Intro sessions, script reviews and one-on-one sessions to prepare participants fully for the on-campus program weeks.
- Faculty and guest artist led workshops covering story and character development, screenwriting techniques, and creative practice.
- Peer-to-peer engagement and collaborative exercises.
- One-on-one consultations with faculty, Roxann Whitebean, and others to be announced.
- 24/7 access to studio space for focused writing.
- Community engagement opportunities.
On February 24, 2027, we will host an open house showcasing the cohort’s work through screenings, table reads, and artist talks. In the spirit of collaboration, Indigenous Arts, Visual Arts, and Literary Arts will present a series of public events alongside their residencies exploring themes of futurism.
