Still Move: Studio Arts 2025 BFA Grad Show

Event Date and Time: Thursday, April 10, 2025, 7-9 pm

Event Description: Still Move: Studio Arts 2025 BFA Grad Show at MacEwan University features the work of artists Keni Ayuno, Lydia Buhay, Isabella Camerino, Michelle Goulet, Kathleen MacKay, Maya Pereira, Sutharot Plia, Lindsey Powlik and Alethea Recla. In a wide range of creative practices, the artworks in this exhibition offer nine different meditations on the idea that stillness and movement are not exclusive of one another.

Co-existing at the Mitchell Art Gallery located in Treaty 6 Territory, the artworks span multiple media and methods in an expressive and eclectic manner. The exhibition includes video, animation, sound, painting, sculpture, textiles, drawing, book arts, print and photo processes, and installation.

Amidst the fast-paced world of the 21st century, we take this opportunity to pause. Still Move suggests that the idea of growing and moving forward is only possible if we embrace rest and reflection. In a rebellious fashion and through a feminist lens, this exhibition dismisses the capitalist values of productivity and consumption. Instead, Still Move advocates for the acts of pausing, observing, questioning and sharing, and in doing so, embracing hope and care for ourselves and others.

Accessibility information: The Mitchell Art Gallery (MAG) is located on the main floor of MacEwan University's Allard Hall. There is paid parking underground with elevator access and a gravel lot behind Allard Hall with ramped sidewalks. There are no stairs to enter into Allard Hall from ground level. The MAG has a wide, open doorway and seating available for those who might need a rest. An ASL interpreter will be present during the speaking portion of the evening's programming.

Edmonton Poetry Festival

Edmonton Poetry Festival Celebrates 20 Years with Month-long Festival and Local Focus.

Edmonton, AB – The Edmonton Poetry Festival Society (EPFS) proudly unveils its official artwork and programming for the 2025 Festival, marking two decades of celebrating poetry in the city. This year, the theme is all about local energy, talent, and partnerships. The festival’s official image, The High Level Magpie, by Ashley Rosenow of Illustrious Interiors, embodies Edmonton’s creative spirit. Featured on the exterior of the iconic High Level Diner, the magpie symbolizes the city’s poetic vibrancy.

The 2025 Festival Programming runs throughout April’s National Poetry Month, showcasing local poets, open mics, regionally based publishers showcase, and collaborations with local arts organizations. New initiatives include:

  • Full month-long programming – Previously a week-long celebration, the festival now expands to a full month in honor of its 20th anniversary.
  • Project: The Twenty – An anthology of twenty young poets, inspired by the theme "my turn of phrase."
  • High Level Bridge lit with EPF colours – On Friday, April 4, the bridge will glow at night in the two shades of blue that reflect the Edmonton Poetry Festival.

The festival is bursting with unique events, including open mics, book launches, and diverse community programs like the French Twist (for the francophone community), Deaf Poetry Jam, a collaborative poetry night with Rapid Fire Theatre, and "Sage" poetry events with elderly folks.

There are workshops, a poetry-music event with our city's current Poet Laurette, and a 20th anniversary birthday party for the festival.
