Showtime! A Grindstone Theatre School Improv Intensive with Lee Boyes!

SHOWTIME!

An improv intensive with Lee Boyes

Improv is fun! Finding your voice and spontaneously creating with others, can be a wonderful experience. However, we often get so wrapped up in our experience, that we may forget that of the audience.

This workshop is intended for intermediate to advanced players, who genuinely want to test themselves and become better performers. Through focused, short form scene work, we'll examine and dissect some of the most common behaviours and choices players make, and how they effect the show. This class aims to heighten your stagecraft, as well as your understanding of how the improviser and the audience can be mined for greater investment, trust and creativity. From planting and pitching to performing with your scene partners, we'll learn & play in a supportive environment that allows for failure, celebration and fun that will take your improv to the next level and beyond!

This workshop will take place over two days, on March 29 and 30, and will culminate in a final showcase on March 30 at 7 pm at The Grindstone Theatre!

Dates: March 29 & 30, 2025 | Saturday from 10 am -   4 pm | Sunday from 1 pm - 4 pm |

There will be a  performance for this workshop at 7 pm on Sunday  March 30, 2025

FREE Artist Talk with Rhys Douglas Farrell

The Kiyooka Ohe Arts Centre would like to invite you for a special Artist Talk and to view the work created by our February Artist-in-Residence, Rhys Douglas Farrell.

The event takes place at the Kiyooka Ohe Arts Centre on Sunday, February 23. Doors will open at 2 pm with light snacks and drinks provided by KOAC. His talk will take place at 2:30 pm, and there will be time to view his work until the conclusion of the reception at 4 pm.

Rhys is joining KOAC for a month-long studio residency in February. The Artist in Residence program was inspired by Katie Ohe, one of the founders of KOAC, who has produced a remarkable body of work over her 60+ year career! Katie is a renowned artist, well known for both her sculpture work and bright, bold silkscreen prints, and Rhys continues to be inspired by her work. Reflecting on this opportunity, Rhys shared, “Throughout Ohe's career she has created many works that coincide with my interests in color, pattern and optical art. Therefore this opportunity will have a phenomenal impact on my artistic practice and research.”

While in residence, Rhys will develop a new body of work, sharing his research and creative process along the way. Engaging with the community, sharing his interests and ideas, as well as providing a unique experience for each viewer is an important aspect of his practice as an artist - he shares, “it is why I make art.” Throughout his residency, Rhys will explore the colours and patterns at the Kiyooka Ohe Arts Centre to develop a new exciting body of work inspired by his surroundings. We can’t wait to see his new creations bound to be infused with optical curiosity!
