 The Dance Individual Project Funding | Alberta Foundation for the Arts  approaches on September , 2025 and Arts Development Consultant Jodie Vandekerkhove is providing a free webinar for those interested in applying.

AFA Individual Project grants can provide up to $18,000 to support the development of individual Alberta dance artists, students, instructors, choreographers, designers, arts administrators, or an ensemble of artists by providing funding:

• to pursue training, 
• to develop a specific artistic work
• to pursue research, or 
• to pursue marketing activities. 

Jodie will be providing tips and other useful information to apply for all project types, helping you develop your funding application and increase your chances of success.

In this royal themed dance camp, participants will learn ballet dance moves and work on their coordination, balance and flexibility. Campers will also have fun and get creative during games and/or crafts. At the end of the week, dancers will perform their new dance moves in a mini performance.

Good Women Dance Collective (GWDC) is offering three scholarship opportunities in their 2025/2026 season. Scholarship recipients will have access to Good Women classes for free from either September-December 2025, January-April 2026, or May-August 2026. Classes run every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10-11:30am and Wednesdays from 9:30-10:30am at Good Women’s studio space in the Shumka Dance Centre (10515 111 Street). Physical Accessibility Description of Shumka Dance Centre Please note, fewer classes run during the May-August semester (by approximately two weeks) due to studio closures. 

Our classes are taught by collective artists Alida Kendell,  Deviani Andrea, Alison Kause and Molly McDermott, as well as a rotating roster of guest teachers. Classes typically involve sequences of movements that travel in and out of the floor, with the sequences ranging from simple to intricate in their complexity. Most often classes follow a traditional structure of warm up, across the floor, and choreographed combinations. Improvisation and partner-based tasks are also used. The focus of the classes vary from technical training to artistic expression to building stamina. 

Applicants to this program should be interested in deepening their understanding of the body in movement and/or their artistic practice. GWDC instructors use body neutral, judgment-free terminology and do not teach gendered roles to participants. Scholarship recipients are required to attend a minimum of two Good Women Classes per week during their scholarship term. Please check online for any schedule changes.

GWDC supports and encourages the sharing of space and stories from all bodies, lands and histories, many of which have yet to be experienced on our stages and in our studios. Seen & Heard: Reclaiming the Voice as a Sacred Instrument

This workshop is for singers, performers, and artists who have felt the sting of perfectionism, burnout, or disconnection from their voice. Whether you’re returning to the stage or simply longing to feel more at home in your own sound, this space is designed to meet you there. We’ll work with the voice not just as a technical tool, but as an extension of the nervous system—a site of healing, power, and presence. Through a blend of somatic voicework, breath practice, and trauma-informed performance tools, participants will be guided to soften performance anxiety, reconnect to their body, and explore voice as a form of self-witnessing and creative expression.

Rooted in vocal pedagogy and nervous system science—but infused with warmth and play—Seen & Heard invites you to reimagine what it means to be fully expressed, without needing to prove or perfect. You don’t need to identify as a professional singer. You just need to have a voice—and a desire to use it in a way that feels true.

Facilitator Bio:

Sierra Jamerson is a genre-defying vocalist, performer, and somatic voice facilitator with nearly two decades of experience as both an artist and educator. Known for her emotionally resonant voice and magnetic stage presence, she has shared the stage with internationally renowned vocalist Josh Groban, performed alongside musical legends like The Drifters and Mavis Staples, and was part of a command performance for Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. She is the founder of Temple of Sound, a voice and rhythm-based healing practice where vocal technique, nervous system science, and sacred ritual converge. Her workshops combine somatic voicework, breath and movement, and trauma-informed embodiment tools—supporting artists in reclaiming their voice as a site of safety, power, and creative expression.

An award-winning certified therapeutic drum circle facilitator, Sierra received the When African Women Talk Her Legacy Award for Arts in 2024. She has taught thousands of singers and artists of all ages and is revered as “an open channel of musical expression of the highest order.
