Program Specialist - Studio Arts & Fine Craft (54406)

  • Minimum 1 year of post-secondary education from a recognized institution in a field related to the arts or equivalent would be considered an asset 

Skills required for success: 

  • Demonstrate knowledge of technical aspects in studio art & fine craft disciplines such as:
    • Fibre Art & Textiles including beading, crochet, embroidery, fabric dyeing, felting, knitting, leatherworking, macramé, sewing, and weaving. 
    • Paper Arts & Printmaking including book arts, card making, collage, papermaking, printmaking (monotype and relief), surface design, and zine-making
    • Stained Glass - leaded glass/tiffany method
  • Experience instructing a wide range of skill levels and diverse groups of participants such as:
    • Children/Youth ages 5 to 17
    • Adults 18+ 
    • Families ranging in ages 
  • Previous teaching experience in a classroom setting or equivalent
  • Creative, flexibility and problem solving
  • Communicate effectively and professionally in a classroom setting with a variety of participants 
  • Comfortable to work alone and independently

Conditions of Employment:

  • Hire is dependent on Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton, and there may be a cost associated with this requirement
  • Possession of Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certificate is a requirement for teaching Child/Youth programs
  • Applicants may be tested

Work Environment:

  • Due to the nature of this work, this position is not eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.
  • Location is dependent upon availability and class schedule but could consist of City Arts Center, ArtsHub Ortona, The Orange Hub, and various City of Edmonton Community Recreation Centers such as Booster Juice Recreation Centre, Central Lions Recreation Centre, Clareview Community Recreation Centre, Coronation Park Sports & Recreation Centre, and Dr. Anne Anderson Community Centre.

Our Studio Arts & Fine Craft instructors instruct a variety of group programs at City Arts Center and City of Edmonton Community Recreation Centers in the City. Share your expert knowledge and passion for studio arts & fine craft with the citizens of Edmonton!

As an instructor, you must be confident and competent in your field and enjoy teaching others. You will be required to plan, prepare, and teach lessons to a variety of skill levels for weekly classes, 1 day workshops, and week long programs.

Opportunities are available for up to 1 to 3 classes a week instructing children, youth, families, and adults in studio art & fine craft disciplines such as:

Fibre Art & Textiles including basketry, beading, crochet, embroidery, fabric dyeing, felting, knitting, leatherworking, macramé, sewing, and weaving
