As a public agency of the Government of Alberta, the AFA complies with and is guided by the the Protection of Privacy Act and the Access to Information Act. This page summarizes how the AFA collects and uses information through its website and other online platforms.

Subscription to AFA e-newsletters

The personal information collected by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts in connection with your newsletter subscription is collected pursuant to Section 4 (c) of the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) for the purpose of keeping you informed about Alberta Foundation for the Arts news, events, and programs through marketing communications and for statistical purposes. Personal information submitted through this form may be disclosed pursuant to the Access to Information Act (ATIA) or where otherwise required by law, to satisfy reporting requirements, or for statistical, funding, planning or research purposes.

Personal Information Management

This website does not automatically gather any personal information about you. The only personal information that is collected about you is the information that you provide to us voluntarily. 

  • When you subscribe to an e-newsletter, complete an online survey, or use an online form on affta.ab.ca, you may be asked for your name, e-mail address, or other information.
  • When you apply for a grant through the GATE Front Office online application system you will be asked for additional information. Your online grant agreement includes a separate privacy statement summarizing how your information will be used.  

Any personal information that you provide to us is collected in accordance with POPA. We collect only what is necessary for the operation of the website and to respond to your needs. Our use and disclosure of your personal information is limited by the privacy provisions of POPA.

The personal information you submit is secure once it reaches our server. In transit between your computer and the server, however, it may not be secure. If you prefer to raise a comment or a question by mail or by phone, please contact:

Cookies

A cookie is a file that is placed on your hard drive with your temporary internet files while you are visiting a website. The AFA's website may use temporary session-based cookies to track how visitors use our site. This information is then used to improve our service to you. We do not store personal information in cookies, nor do we collect personal information from you without your knowledge as you browse this site. Automatic Collection of Non-identifiable Information

When you visit the AFA website, the web server will automatically collect a limited amount of standard information essential to the operation and evaluation of the website. This information includes:

  • the IP address your computer is using to receive information,
  • the type and version of your browser, and
  • the name and size of the file you request.

The AFA monitors user behaviour (e.g., page views, navigation paths, etc.) to understand and improve its website.

Security

For site security purposes and to ensure the service remains available to all users, the AFA's computer system uses software to monitor or detect unauthorized attempts to upload or change information, or damage the service we provide. No attempt is made to identify users or their usage patterns except for authorized law enforcement investigations.
