Corporate information

The AFA is a public agency. Public agencies are established by the Government of Alberta and operate at arm's length from traditional government departments. This page provides an overview of legislation, corporate documents and policies that guide and support the AFA's work.

Governance

The AFA is guided by the objectives found in the Alberta Foundation for the Arts Act, 1991. It is governed by a Board of Directors appointed by government. The Chair reports to Alberta’s Minister of Arts, Culture and Status of Women.

Code of Conduct

The AFA Board of Directors operates under a Code of Conduct that reflects a commitment to the AFA's values and provides a framework to guide ethical conduct in a way that upholds the integrity and reputation of the agency.  View the AFA Code of Conduct (PDF)

Strategic Plan

The AFA's 2024-2027 Strategic Plan was developed to help guide its annual operations and planning:

Mandate and roles

Per the Alberta Public Agencies Governance Act, every public agency must have a Mandate and Roles Document that is jointly developed by the public agency and its responsible Minister. This document describes the roles of and relationships between members of the AFA Board of Directors, the Minister and designated department representatives to fulfill the AFA's mandate. View the AFA Mandate and Roles Document (PDF).

AFA Bylaws

The AFA is guided by bylaws for matters of procedure and transaction of business, subject to provisions of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts Act, 1991. View a copy of the AFA Bylaws (PDF).

Policies

Under its governance responsibilities, the AFA Board has the authority to develop policy that is specific to its mandate and operations.
