How the AFA acquires artwork to support steady and diverse art collection growth.

The AFA is committed to collecting and promoting the full breadth of Alberta's artistic heritage over time. Through intentional and varied acquisition methods, the AFA Art Collection is developed to be inclusive and responsive to Alberta's evolving social and cultural narratives, as well as its emerging artistic voices.

Artworks are collected for the AFA Art Collection through three primary methods: Donations, Curatorial purchase, and Application for purchase.

 

Donations

The AFA values the generosity of donors who wish to make gifts of art to the AFA Art Collection.

Curatorial purchase

The Curatorial Purchase Program identifies and acquires artwork by living or deceased artists that enhance the AFA Art Collection.

Application for purchase

The AFA Art Collection is the only art collection dedicated solely to Alberta art. The Art Acquisitions by Application program is designed to acquire contemporary works of art by any eligible Alberta artist.
